3rd ASEAN-US Leaders Meeting to be convened in Bali on 18 November 2011

3rd  ASEAN-United States of America (USA) Leaders’ Meeting will be convened in Bali, Indonesia on 18 November 2011. The Meeting will be co-chaired by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Dr. H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as Chair of ASEAN and the Honourable Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, and attended by the Heads of State/Government of the ASEAN Member States. The Secretary General of ASEAN will also be in attendance.
The Meeting is expected to take stock the ASEAN-US cooperation and to discuss on efforts to elevate the ASEAN-U.S. partnership to a strategic level, including through the establishment of the ASEAN-US Eminent Persons Group. Furthermore, the Leaders will adopt the Plan of Action to Implement the ASEAN-U.S. Enhanced Partnership for Enduring Peace and Prosperity 2011-2015, issue a joint statement of the third ASEAN-US Leaders Meeting.
It will also discuss on challenges to global economic recovery, food and energy security, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and narrowing development gap in ASEAN.
Other issues to be focused on will include the political development in Myanmar, the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon Free Zone (SEANWFZ), cooperation on combating international terrorism and other trans-national crimes.(genk)
